Taman Rasuna 18 Apartment
This apartment unit is located in South Jakarta measuring 40 square meter. Co-In Collab undertook the interior design work with the main objective of transforming this old compact compartementalised unit into a more comfortable expansive and sophisticated space to live. The main challenge was to bring natural light into the entire home and translate the owner’s interest in rustic design into well placed functionalities. The design mimics that of a modern farmhouse where rustic warmth is blended with industrial edge to maximize the space into a curated experience and not that of a cluttered home. The design plays very well with balancing high-contrast tones with soft wooden textures. Co-In Collab replaces the dry walls with an internal Crittal-Style windows to allow light to flow through the kitchen and the living area, creating a sense of openness while at the same time maintaining distinct functional boundaries. The ceiling boasts exposed wood-textured beams that provide a sense of structural history. And the entryway welcomes visitors with a bespoke mudroom cabinet that combines the rich walnut texture with charcoal accents. It projects the sense of home and organisation, making full use of vertical space for hats, bags and keys. The use of sliding barn door for the bathroom adds another charm that further stresses the farmhouse aesthetics and eliminates the awkward door swing radius, crucial for small-space living. The fluted wood paneling on the dining island adds a rhythmic quality that softens the clean lines of the white stone countertop. The display cabinet adjacent to the island integrates a toe-kick lighting that adds to the warmth of the house. Across the island, the kitchen displays a rhytmic play of vertical gray slats , smooth gray surfaces, a wooden countertop and racking cabinet and soft golden handles. It is a kitchen that fits them all from washing machine to refrigerator to drinking water dispenser to cooking utensils. It’s a sophisticated kitchen design for urban living. What is a house without a bedroom. The internal window allows fluidity for this bedroom to the rest of the house. It breaks down the feeling of claustrophobia for the occupant. It is a sanctuary that provides ample space for a wardrobe and a simple yet comfortable working table.
